(DDM) – A major fire outbreak has engulfed Fresh FM, the Ibadan-based radio station owned by veteran gospel musician Yinka Ayefele.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze started on Friday evening, quickly spreading across parts of the broadcasting facility.

In a video clip circulating on social media, residents could be seen in a confused state, watching helplessly as thick flames raged.

A staff member of the station, identified as @Arugboboisi, confirmed the incident in a post on his X handle.

He appealed urgently to the Oyo State Fire Service for immediate intervention and asked the public to help spread the word.

“Fresh FM is currently on fire! We urgently need the Fire Service to respond immediately. Please retweet, spread the word and alert the nearest station,” he wrote.

The employee later posted another video of the inferno with the caption, “What a night,” underscoring the gravity of the situation.

As at the time of filing this report, it was still unclear what triggered the blaze or whether it had been fully contained.

DDM gathered that no official statement had been issued regarding the extent of damage or possible casualties.

Fresh FM is one of the most popular private radio stations in southwestern Nigeria, with millions of listeners across Oyo and neighbouring states.

Founded by Yinka Ayefele, the station is known for its vibrant music programming, political talk shows, and strong grassroots appeal.

This is not the first time Ayefele has faced a major setback involving his broadcasting business.

In 2018, part of his Music House complex, which housed Fresh FM, was controversially demolished by the Oyo State government.

That demolition sparked public outrage and sympathy across the nation, further solidifying Ayefele’s reputation as a resilient entrepreneur.

The latest fire incident has therefore rekindled painful memories for supporters who fear another devastating loss.

Listeners have already taken to social media to express solidarity with the broadcaster, praying that the situation will be brought under control.

Some commentators also raised concerns about the preparedness of fire services in Oyo State to respond promptly to such emergencies.

Nigeria has witnessed several high-profile fire incidents in recent years, often linked to poor electrical infrastructure and delayed emergency response.

Analysts say the destruction of a major media outlet like Fresh FM could disrupt information flow and entertainment for thousands of residents.

They argue that such disasters highlight the urgent need for stronger fire safety measures in public and private institutions.

For Ayefele, who has overcome personal tragedy after surviving a crippling accident in the late 1990s, this fresh crisis represents yet another test of resilience.

Observers predict that public donations and community support may soon pour in to help him recover from the setback.

As investigations continue, the people of Ibadan and beyond are anxiously waiting for updates on whether Fresh FM can bounce back from the flames.
