Obidient Movement urges Ndi Anambra to maximise voter registration ahead of 2027 elections

(DDM) – The Obidient Movement in Anambra State has called on residents, youths, and eligible voters across the South East to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide.

The group described the registration as a critical opportunity to strengthen democracy and correct past instances of voter disenfranchisement.

According to the movement, many Nigerians were unable to vote in the 2023 elections due to polling unit relocations, insecurity, or administrative challenges, which limited their participation.

The CVR, the statement said, is a chance to ensure that all eligible citizens are properly registered ahead of the 2027 polls.

DDM gathered that the movement specifically appealed to families under the POssibilitarian banner in Anambra to mobilize and encourage youths and new voters to complete their registration.

The appeal targets all individuals who will reach voting age by January 2027. Citizens born on or before January 2009 were urged to register immediately to avoid missing the opportunity to exercise their civic rights.

In its statement, the Obidient Movement stressed the importance of obtaining a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), describing it as a prerequisite for any meaningful political participation.

The movement warned that mere slogans or support for political figures will not translate into victory without an active and legitimate vote. Additionally, the group condemned vote-buying, highlighting that such practices undermine democracy and perpetuate political and economic subjugation.

The movement called on political leaders, grassroots coordinators, and community mobilizers to take proactive steps to encourage registration.

Recommended actions include identifying young voters, conducting awareness campaigns in schools and communities, assisting citizens in overcoming obstacles to registration, and ensuring families and local groups participate collectively.

The Obidient Movement emphasized that high voter turnout is the most effective defense against electoral manipulation, stating that widespread participation makes rigging nearly impossible.

Continuous Voter Registration is ongoing from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and citizens were urged to take immediate action to avoid delays.

The movement further described its mission as a citizens’ revolution committed to values, justice, and accountability.

According to the group, mobilizing voters today ensures that Nigerians can reclaim their political future and create the foundation for a New Nigeria.

Hon. Amb. Justin Kingland, Media Personnel and Spokesperson of the Obidient Movement in Anambra State, signed the statement, reiterating the movement’s call for active engagement, civic responsibility, and the safeguarding of democratic rights across the state and nation.
