Supreme Court affirms Sherrif Oborevwori as Delta State Governor

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Kenneth Gbagi filed an appeal to remove Delta State Governor Sherrif Oborevwori, but the Supreme Court denied it and affirmed Mr Sherrif Oborevwori.

In a ruling just now, a five-member panel of the supreme court determined that Gbagi and his party had not produced sufficient evidence to support their claims that Oborevwori was ineligible to run in the most recent Delta State gubernatorial election and that the election was conducted in a manner that did not substantially comply with the applicable laws.

Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba dismissed the appeal as meritless in the lead judgment, ruling against the appellants on all points presented for resolution.

The Labour Party (LP) and its candidate for the election are appealing Oborevwori’s election, and the court is due to rule on their appeal.
