Dangote Group mourns BBNaija star Phyna’s sister Ruth Otabor after tragic accident

(DDM) – The Dangote Group has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Ruth was critically injured in a road accident involving one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State, earlier this month.

The company, in a statement released on Sunday, August 31, 2025, said it had made arrangements to fly Ruth to India for advanced medical treatment, pending clearance from her doctors.

Since the accident, Dangote Group officials and insurance partners had reportedly been providing full medical and financial support to Ruth and assisting her family during the critical period.

“On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time,” the company’s statement said.

“Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today,” the statement added.

The Dangote Group emphasised that safety, accountability, and compassion remain central to its operations and reiterated its commitment to strengthening safety systems and supporting those affected in times of tragedy.

“May God grant her mercy and eternal rest,” the statement concluded.

Ruth Otabor, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, had been fighting for her life following the tragic accident on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, which led to the amputation of one of her legs.

Her family announced her passing on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., through Eko Solicitors & Advocates, who represent the Otabor family.

The family is currently grieving and has requested privacy to mourn their daughter, sister, and mother, while funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Phyna had earlier taken to social media to cry out in anguish over her sister’s fate, calling on Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, after the truck linked to his company caused the accident.

Phyna had revealed that the victim had graduated just six days before the incident and was at risk of losing her other leg.

The Dangote Group’s statement highlights its commitment to supporting victims and ensuring measures are in place to prevent future tragedies, even as the nation mourns the loss of Ruth Otabor.
