2027: Peter Obi Will Destroy PDP — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a fresh warning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He declared that bringing back former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would mark the end of the opposition party.

Speaking during a media chat on Monday, September 1, Wike accused the PDP of refusing to learn from the mistakes that cost it the 2023 general elections.

He recalled how he had warned against allowing both the presidential candidate and the national chairman to emerge from the North.

According to him, that decision was unjust, divisive, and politically suicidal.

“From day one, I told my colleagues, PDP, you are shooting yourself. If you allow this to continue, you’ll pay,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor accused the PDP leadership of “stealing” both positions and shutting out calls for balance.

He argued that this arrogance triggered the party’s failure at the polls.

“It is better now you have stolen the presidential ticket and again stole the national chairman.

I said it will purge you. And it really purged them. I have no regret for it,” he declared.

Wike stressed that the presidency must rotate back to the South if the PDP wants to survive and regain relevance.

He described zoning and equity as non-negotiable for national stability.

Turning to Peter Obi, Wike dismissed talks of the former Labour Party flagbearer returning to the PDP.

He branded the move as dangerous, hypocritical, and a betrayal of principle.

“To what? Bringing Obi to where? You want to kill the party? Obi that was abusing the party, saying it is rotten so the party is now good enough for him? Ambition can make people even go to Satan’s house,” he said.

According to Wike, Obi’s return would destroy what little credibility the PDP still has and weaken its ideological foundation.

“If you want to destroy this party, dare bring Obi. There’s no way he will come back just because of ambition. No more ideology, no longer principle,” he added.

Wike insisted he stood by his long-held belief that only justice, fairness, and zoning could save the PDP.

He warned that ignoring this formula again ahead of 2027 would spell doom.
