(DDM) – Police operatives in Ughelli, Delta State, have arrested three suspected armed robbers accused of snatching a motorcycle at gunpoint.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led surveillance operations carried out by officers on September 2, 2025.

The suspects have been identified as Henry Bernard, Justice Ayero, and Oho Ogbavwomera, all reported to be indigenes of Aladja Town in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to the Delta State Police Command, the suspects had been on the radar of security agencies after repeated reports of motorcycle theft and armed assaults in Ughelli and surrounding communities.

Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed that the three suspects were intercepted and arrested shortly after a motorbike snatching incident was reported by a victim.

Recovered from the suspects were a single-barreled gun, two hacksaws, scissors, torches, a dagger, and rolls of masking tape believed to have been used in their operations.

Security sources explained that the recovered weapons and tools indicated the gang’s readiness to inflict harm and intimidate their victims during attacks.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have allegedly terrorised motorcyclists in the Ughelli axis, targeting riders in isolated areas and forcibly dispossessing them of their motorcycles.

Authorities also suspect the gang may be connected to other robbery incidents in Delta communities, including attacks on commercial tricycle operators.

Police spokesman Edafe stated that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, with efforts ongoing to track down additional members of the gang.

He assured residents that the police remain committed to dismantling robbery networks in Delta State and restoring safety for commuters and transport operators.

Residents of Ughelli expressed relief at the arrests, noting that constant cases of motorcycle snatching had instilled fear among commercial riders and passengers in the area.

Community leaders have called for a sustained security presence, arguing that criminal gangs often resurface when operations are not followed by long-term patrols.

Security analysts believe the latest arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, but warned that more resources are needed to combat rising crime in Delta and neighbouring states.

The Delta Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities for prompt action.

For now, the suspects remain in detention as police prepare to charge them to court after investigations are concluded.
