Man killed during UNN bonfire event

A Faculty of Arts bonfire event at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) turned tragic on Friday night when a man identified as Power Autos, from Lejja, Nsukka, was fatally stabbed following an altercation.

The incident occurred near the Archaeology Department, opposite the UBA Hall of Fame, during the annual celebration.

According to sources, the conflict began when Power Autos’ GLK vehicle accidentally scratched another car.

Although university security operatives initially intervened to de-escalate the situation, Power Autos later left with his friends.

However, within the campus, his vehicle was ambushed by individuals suspected to be linked to the earlier dispute.

They blocked his path using three cars. While his companions managed to escape, Power Autos stepped out of his vehicle to assess the confrontation but was attacked and stabbed in the throat, dying instantly.

The attackers fled the scene, leaving one of their vehicles abandoned in a gutter on campus.

Diaspora Digital Media gathered that UNN security raised the alarm, leading to the apprehension of four suspects near the Odenigwe Gate as they attempted to escape.

They are now in custody at the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where investigations are ongoing.

A security officer at UNN noted that the individual who stabbed the victim abandoned his car after it fell into a ditch during the escape attempt.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command and UNN have yet to release official statements on the incident, with a university guard advising reporters to wait until Monday for further information.
