(DDM) – Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has publicly endorsed George Moghalu as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Obi made his declaration during a town hall meeting in Nimo, located within the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, over the weekend.

The former governor of Anambra State noted that Moghalu’s manifesto prioritises human development, security, education, healthcare, and poverty reduction.

Obi emphasised that these pillars remain the most critical concerns facing residents of the state.

He explained that the candidate’s vision aligns with Labour Party’s ideological focus on people-centred governance.

Obi wrote on his official X handle that the safety of lives and property, as well as the education of future generations, must remain at the heart of governance.

He added that Moghalu represents a new era of leadership built on “capacity, compassion, and character.”

Political observers say Obi’s endorsement could significantly strengthen Moghalu’s campaign, especially as the LP continues to consolidate grassroots support across Anambra communities.

Moghalu’s candidacy has been described by party insiders as a unifying force capable of bridging divisions among party stakeholders.

He has pledged to drive policies that will tackle unemployment, expand access to healthcare, and address insecurity, particularly in rural areas.

Analysts note that Obi’s influence in Anambra politics remains strong, especially after his stellar performance in the 2023 presidential election where he won a majority of votes in the state.

This latest development is therefore seen as a major boost for Moghalu’s chances as the LP seeks to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Moghalu, speaking after Obi’s endorsement, expressed gratitude to the former presidential candidate and assured voters of his readiness to deliver purposeful leadership.

He promised to continue engaging citizens through town hall meetings, listening sessions, and community-based consultations.

Political commentators suggest that the endorsement could reshape the dynamics of the governorship contest, potentially triggering shifts in voter alignments across senatorial zones.

Residents in Nimo and surrounding communities described the event as a morale booster for Labour Party supporters, who now see Obi’s involvement as a rallying point for unity and renewed energy.

The Anambra governorship election, which is already attracting national attention, is expected to be fiercely contested by multiple parties.
