The lawmaker representing Kogi Central at the national assembly, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has inaugurated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council in the area ahead of the 2027 general election.
She charged members to take the party’s campaign to every household and polling unit in the senatorial district.
Akpoti-Uduaghan appointed Salami Etudaiye as director-general of the campaign organisation and Abubakar Karaku as campaign chairman.
Other members are Jacob Ogirima Anebe, secretary; Ilyasu Zubair, head of operations; Isiaka Uhuanaye, head of technicals; and Jane Onoba, head of welfare.
While speaking at the inauguration, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the PDP campaign must move beyond conventional rallies and focus on direct engagement with voters at the grassroots.
“This campaign must be house-to-house and polling-unit-by-polling-unit. We must reach our people directly, listen to them, engage them and explain clearly why the PDP remains the best platform for the development and progress of our people,” she said.
She urged the campaign council to ensure that every ward and polling unit is adequately covered, while calling on members to demonstrate discipline, unity and commitment.
The senator also asked the campaign team to open its doors to people willing to contribute to the party’s success, regardless of previous political differences.
“We must open our doors for everyone who wants to join this moving train and this winning team. There is room for everyone who believes in the PDP and in the future we are building for Kogi central,” she said.
Akpoti-Uduaghan said the 2027 election would require the collective efforts of party leaders, women, youths, ward executives, campaign coordinators, volunteers and other stakeholders.
Etudaiye described his appointment as a responsibility to organise a formidable political movement across Kogi central.
“This is not a ceremonial title. This is a call to battle. I did not accept this assignment to manage a campaign of polite handshakes and quiet meetings. I accepted it to organise a movement,” he said.
He added that the campaign would cover Okene, Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi and Ogori-Magongo, with emphasis on wards, polling units, streets, markets, campuses and households.
“We are not going into this election to beg. We are going in to win and to win decisively,” he said.
Etudaiye also called on women and youths to play active roles in the campaign, describing women as the backbone of the party and youths as critical to modern political mobilisation.
He pledged to lead the campaign with transparency, competence and a focus on securing victory for the party’s candidates.
On his part, Karaku urged PDP stakeholders to put aside personal differences and focus on strengthening the party ahead of the elections.
“This is the time for every member of our great party to come together. We must put aside whatever differences we may have and concentrate on the larger objective of building a stronger PDP and securing victory for our candidates,” he said.
He called for issue-based campaigns and urged members to engage voters through the party’s programmes and aspirations rather than personal attacks or divisive rhetoric.
“Our message must be positive, our conduct must be responsible, and our mobilisation must be strategic,” he said.
