PHOTOS: Peter Obi Receives US Honorary Citizenship in Georgia

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has been conferred honorary citizenship of the State of Georgia, USA, following his participation in the Black Congressional Week events in Washington, DC.

Obi shared the recognition on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, highlighting that the engagements reinforced his commitment to building a visionary and responsible Nigeria.

He wrote, “Yesterday, Thursday, September 25, in Washington, DC, I participated in the activities of Black Congressional Week, with special emphasis on Georgia State events.”

During the week, Obi attended the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception, hosted by US Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, where discussions focused on African democracy and development.

Obi also met Kim Clark, CEO of Georgia Power, the state’s largest independent power company, describing the interaction as insightful.

Additionally, he addressed attendees at the One Voice Africa event, urging greater commitment to good governance across the continent.

The highlight, according to Obi, was the conferment of honorary citizenship, which he described as both humbling and motivating.

He stated, “For me, the day’s events were about learning, serving, and remaining committed to building a new Nigeria that is truly possible.”
