Kwankwaso Denies Submitting Letter to Join APC Amid Defection Rumors

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has dismissed reports claiming that he has formally submitted a letter of intent to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The two-time governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) issued a personal disclaimer on Friday, urging Nigerians to disregard the claims.

“We have been alerted to some online statements suggesting that we have submitted a letter of intent to join a political party in the country.

We would like to clarify that we have not made any such submission to any party,” the statement read.

Kwankwaso advised the public to rely only on information from his official communication channels regarding his political future.

The denial comes after several online platforms alleged that Kwankwaso had secretly sent a letter to the APC national secretariat, indicating his readiness to defect.

Reports also suggested ongoing discussions between Kwankwaso and the APC leadership, fueling speculation of a possible realignment ahead of 2027.

Kwankwaso, who is a leading figure in the opposition coalition formed under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been at the center of political speculation in recent months.

His strained ties with factions within the NNPP and frequent high-profile meetings across party lines have further stirred rumors of defection.

Political analysts note that Kwankwaso’s next steps are critical, given his strong grassroots support in the North and his influence as the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

With the APC reportedly courting northern opposition heavyweights, his denial may calm immediate speculation but is unlikely to end conversations about his future role in the political landscape.

For now, Kwankwaso maintains that he remains committed to his political ideals and has not switched allegiance.
