Sol Bamba, the former Ivory Coast international defender, passed away at the age of 39.

Throughout his career, Bamba demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication to the sport.

Born on January 13, 1985, in Ivry-sur-Seine, France, Bamba began his professional career at Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Dunfermline Athletic in Scotland.

He later played for Hibernian, Leicester City, Trabzonspor, and Cardiff City, where he helped the team achieve promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

Bamba earned 46 caps for the Ivory Coast national team, representing his country at the 2008 Olympics and the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

He also played in several friendly matches, showcasing his skills on the international stage.

In 2021, Bamba faced his toughest challenge when he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

However, he showed remarkable courage and resilience, undergoing chemotherapy and ultimately being declared cancer-free.

This experience did not deter him from the sport he loved, as he went on to coach, serving as assistant manager at Cardiff City and technical director at Adanaspor.

Throughout his career, Bamba was known for his kindness, humility, and dedication to football.

His legacy extends beyond his impressive career statistics, inspiring countless young players with his passion and work ethic.

Bamba’s contributions to football were recognized by his peers and fans alike. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.
