Fabrizio Romano Reveals Manchester United’s Massive 50% Sell-On Clause for Mason Greenwood

(DDM) – Renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United will receive half of any future transfer fee for Mason Greenwood after his move to Olympique Marseille.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Greenwood’s transfer to the French Ligue 1 club in 2024 included a significant 50% sell-on clause, ensuring United maintains strong financial interest in the player’s career.

The 24-year-old forward, who joined Marseille for £26.6 million, has flourished under head coach Roberto De Zerbi and is now regarded as one of the club’s most influential players.

Greenwood’s contract with Marseille runs until 2029, and his consistent form has attracted interest from several elite European clubs, though Marseille’s president Pablo Longoria and sporting director Mehdi Benatia have reportedly refused to entertain offers.

According to Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, the sell-on clause could provide Manchester United with a major financial advantage in future transfer windows.

“They already received around €25 million for the initial deal,” Romano explained, “but the 50% sell-on clause could still be crucial for United’s financial fair play and transfer plans.”

Greenwood has continued to prove his value in France, having finished last season as joint top scorer in Ligue 1 with 21 goals, level with Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele.

In the ongoing campaign, he has already recorded six goals and three assists in eight league matches, alongside two goal contributions in the UEFA Champions League.

His remarkable form has revitalized Marseille’s attack and reestablished him as one of the most dynamic English players abroad.

Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has begun a major squad overhaul following disappointing performances in recent seasons.

DDM reports that United’s forward line has undergone significant changes, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho all exiting the club, while Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Šeško have been brought in to refresh the attack.

Despite these adjustments, the Red Devils currently sit ninth in the Premier League table with 13 points from eight matches, highlighting the challenges Amorim faces in rebuilding the squad’s competitive edge.

Greenwood’s success story in France has reignited debate among fans over Manchester United’s decision to sell him, with many now suggesting the club could still benefit enormously if a major European side bids for him in the future.

For United, the 50% sell-on clause represents not only a smart financial move but also a lingering connection to a homegrown talent who continues to thrive abroad.

Football analysts have praised the deal as one of the most strategic clauses in United’s recent transfer history, a move that could eventually bring millions back to Old Trafford if Greenwood secures another big-money move.
