(DDM) – Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has issued a strong response to comments made by former United States President Donald Trump, warning that Nigeria will defend itself against any form of foreign aggression.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Fani-Kayode’s reaction followed Trump’s recent controversial statement suggesting that the United States could intervene militarily in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
Trump’s remarks, which have sparked diplomatic tension and public outrage, were interpreted by many Nigerians as an unwarranted interference in the country’s internal affairs.
Fani-Kayode, in a statement released through his verified X handle, condemned Trump’s tone, describing it as “provocative, condescending, and dangerous rhetoric that undermines Nigeria’s sovereignty.”
He stated that Nigeria is an independent and sovereign nation capable of managing its internal issues without foreign intimidation or intervention.
The former minister warned that any attempt by a foreign power to violate Nigeria’s territorial integrity would be met with “decisive resistance.”
According to him, Nigeria’s unity and independence were achieved through sacrifice and will not be compromised under any circumstance, regardless of the justification presented by any foreign nation.
Fani-Kayode reminded Trump that the U.S. has its own record of religious and racial tensions, urging him to focus on healing divisions in his country rather than stirring instability abroad.
He accused some Western governments of using human rights and religious freedom as “political tools” to influence or control developing nations.
He stressed that while Nigeria continues to promote freedom of religion and peaceful coexistence among its citizens, it will not tolerate threats or lectures from external forces.
Fani-Kayode also called on the Federal Government to take a firm diplomatic stance, demanding official clarification from Washington regarding Trump’s remarks and their implications for Nigeria–U.S. relations.
He further urged Nigerians, regardless of political or religious differences, to stand united in defense of the nation’s dignity, sovereignty, and international image.
His statement echoes similar sentiments expressed by other Nigerian leaders who have described Trump’s comments as “reckless” and “uninformed.”
Observers note that this latest exchange comes amid rising global sensitivity to religious freedom issues in Africa and renewed Western interest in Nigeria’s internal security situation.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has maintained that Nigeria remains committed to protecting citizens of all faiths, rejecting all claims of religious persecution or systemic bias.
As tensions simmer, political analysts believe the diplomatic conversation between Abuja and Washington in the coming weeks will determine how seriously Nigeria responds to Trump’s comments.
