Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has held talks with leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja, fuelling speculation over a possible opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting, which took place at his residence in the capital, included Mohammed Bakin and other party officials. Sources say the delegation used the visit to formally invite Kwankwaso to join the NDC.
The development comes amid growing political realignments, with increasing calls for a coalition involving Kwankwaso and Peter Obi.
Supporters of both figures recently launched the “OK Movement” a grassroots push aimed at building momentum for a potential joint ticket.
Kwankwaso has been linked with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), but the party is currently grappling with internal disputes that could weaken its position ahead of 2027.
The crisis within the ADC has reached the courts, with the Supreme Court of Nigeria barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising or participating in any congress organised by a disputed caretaker leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)..
The outcome of the case is expected to shape the party’s future direction and could influence whether key figures like Kwankwaso remain or seek alternative platforms.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership lists and nominate candidates.
However, several opposition parties including factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party are pushing for an extension of the timetable, arguing that the current schedule could disadvantage them.
