Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has reiterated that his life mission is to uplift humanity through deliberate investment in education and healthcare, which he described as the “most powerful pillars of human development.”

Obi stated this on Wednesday during a visit to the College of Nursing Sciences, Adazi-Nnukwu, where he donated ₦15 million to support the training of healthcare professionals.

“I have always believed that life must have a purpose. Mine is simple: to uplift humanity through purposeful investment in education, healthcare, and by pulling people out of poverty,” Obi said. “Education expands opportunity; healthcare protects dignity. When a society educates its people and secures their well-being, progress becomes inevitable.”

He emphasised the global demand for medical professionals, noting that Nigerian youths must be equipped not only for national service but to contribute to humanity at large.

“As countries face shortages of medical personnel, our young people must be prepared to serve the world. They are global citizens in the making.”

Obi lamented Nigeria’s low life expectancy rate of 54 years, saying it underscores the urgent need to prioritise education and health. “This is not just a policy decision; it is a moral duty. No nation rises without educated citizens and a healthy population.”

He commended the proprietor of the institution, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, and voluntary mission agencies for “doing what responsible governments ought to do — building institutions, shaping character, and preparing the next generation for service.”

Responding, Bishop Ezeokafor thanked Obi for his sustained commitment to education and human development. He noted that if other leaders had supported the institution the way Obi did during and after his time in office, the college would have grown far beyond its present level.

The Bishop praised Obi for using his “hard-earned resources to uplift humanity,” describing his efforts as selfless and visionary.

Obi also visited the Practising Primary School in his hometown, Agulu, which was destroyed by fire in December 2024. He described the learning conditions of pupils currently studying without proper shelter as “harsh and undignified,” assuring that rebuilding will begin in January 2026.

“We must give our children a safe and dignified learning environment so that they can grow into the great men and women they are destined to be.”

Obi restated that education remains the most transformative investment for society. “Every child lifted is a light to the nation and a blessing to the world. We must all continue doing our part to secure a brighter future for our children, our country, and humanity.”

Mr, Obi was accompanied by Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna and Prof. Patrick Obi.
