Military Widows Seek Jigawa Government Support for Welfare, Inclusion

DUTSE, Jigawa State — Military widows in Jigawa State have appealed to the state government to prioritise their welfare and include them in social and economic intervention programmes to address their economic and social challenges.

The appeal was made during a courtesy visit to Governor Umar Namadi by the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces Civilian Widows Association (NAFCWA), Jigawa State chapter. The delegation, led by Mrs. Aisha Tukur, the state chairperson of the association, expressed gratitude to the governor for previous support but highlighted the need for more sustained assistance.

The widows called for inclusion in government programmes such as the conditional cash transfer scheme, agricultural input support, and skills acquisition initiatives. They also requested scholarships for the children of deceased military personnel and priority access to healthcare services.

Governor Namadi, in his response, acknowledged the sacrifices made by the families of fallen soldiers and assured the widows that the state government would consider their requests. He emphasised the importance of providing support to those who have lost their loved ones in service to the nation and pledged that the government would explore ways to improve their welfare.

The meeting underscored the state government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and recognising the contributions of military families to national security. The governor also commended the association for its efforts in mobilising widows and advocating for their rights.

As part of its broader social welfare agenda, the Jigawa State Government has implemented various programmes aimed at supporting widows, orphans, and other vulnerable groups. The military widows’ appeal highlights the need for continued collaboration between the government and civil society organisations to address the unique challenges faced by families of fallen heroes.
