The Nasarawa State Police Command has refuted reports of a kidnapping at Peter’s Foundation Secondary School in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, clarifying that the incident was a false alarm caused by students mistaking hunters for kidnappers.

According to Ramhan Nansel, the Police Command’s spokesman, the claims circulating online were entirely false.

He provided audio evidence of his conversation with the school proprietor, who confirmed that no abduction occurred.

The school proprietor explained that the confusion began when students on the field spotted two armed hunters nearby and, out of fear, ran to inform their teacher.

The teacher instructed them to return to class, but panic spread as the students exaggerated the situation to their classmates. This misunderstanding quickly escalated into a false alarm, which then went viral.

“The claim that two pupils were kidnapped in my school is not true,” the proprietor stated, emphasizing that the rumor stemmed from the students’ misinterpretation of the hunters’ presence.

Earlier reports had caused widespread panic, with parents rushing to the school to evacuate their children.

A video shared by an X user, @AsakyGRN, showed chaotic scenes at the school, with parents running frantically, believing their children were in danger.

The post alleged that unidentified men had stormed the school and abducted students, leading to the temporary shutdown of schools in the area.

However, the police have since debunked these claims, assuring the public that the situation was under control and urging people to verify information before sharing it.
