Italy’s PM Meloni Reacts to Terror Attacks on Christian in Nigeria

Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has condemned the fresh attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria, following another abduction involving schoolgirls and teachers in the northern region.

In a statement released and shared on her official Facebook page, Meloni described the violence as unacceptable and called for stronger protection measures for Christians and other religious groups across the country.

“We firmly condemn the renewed violence that occurred today against Christian communities in Nigeria,” she said.

The Italian leader emphasised that religious freedom remains a fundamental right that must not be compromised. “Religious freedom is an inviolable right,” Meloni added, urging Nigerian authorities to intensify efforts to safeguard vulnerable communities.

She also demanded the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators behind the latest attack.

“We call on the Nigerian government to strengthen the protection of Christian and all religious communities and to prosecute those responsible for these brutal attacks,” she said.

Meloni expressed solidarity with the victims and communities currently living under fear, noting that Italy stands with Nigerians affected by persistent religious-based violence.

Her comments come amid rising insecurity in several parts of Northern Nigeria, where repeated kidnappings, killings, and assaults on schools have worsened over the past months.

In the most recent incident, gunmen abducted students and teachers, further heightening public anxiety and pressure on security agencies.

DDM earlier reported growing concern over the continuous wave of school kidnappings, which has placed enormous strain on families, local authorities, and the security architecture in affected states.

The renewed attacks have intensified calls for urgent reforms, improved intelligence gathering, and stronger protection for Christian communities and other vulnerable groups targeted by armed groups across the region.
