10 Feared Kidnapped as Bandits Raid Niger Communities

At least 10 people have been reportedly abducted by gunmen in separate attacks on Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying the attack occurred on Wednesday evening.

“On November 26, 2025, at about 8pm, a report was received indicating that suspected armed men abducted about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local Government Area. Effort is being made to rescue the victims,” Abiodun said.

Earlier on Wednesday, another violent incident was recorded in Kakuru community, also in Erena Ward, where bandits reportedly brutalised a blind man and severed his right hand after stealing a mobile phone from him.

The victim is said to be receiving first aid treatment at a patent medicine shop in Kuduru community.

Residents of Palaita, also in Erena Ward, reported a separate attack on a rice farm, where up to 24 people including pregnant women were allegedly abducted. The figure has not been independently verified.

The latest incidents add to growing security concerns in Niger State. Barely a week ago, armed men stormed St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri community, Agwara LGA, and abducted more than 300 students and 12 teachers, marking one of the worst school kidnappings in recent years.
