(DDM) – The death of retired judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, has thrown Asaba and surrounding communities into deep shock after her body was discovered under troubling and violent circumstances inside her private residence.

DDM gathered that the lifeless body of the respected judicial icon was found on Monday morning when family members arrived at her home and immediately sensed that something was wrong.

The family confirmed that her hands, legs, and face were tightly bound, indicating that she may have endured severe distress before her death.

They said the entire house appeared ransacked, with several items displaced in a manner that suggested a forceful invasion or targeted attack.

Close relatives were particularly alarmed by the disappearance of the night guard who was assigned to the property.

They disclosed that the guard could not be located anywhere near the compound after the incident, fuelling growing suspicions about potential insider involvement.

Her brother, who spoke shortly after the grim discovery, revealed that the main gate of the residence was shockingly left wide open when the morning guard reportedly arrived for duty.

He said the gate’s condition raised further questions about how the assailants gained access and whether the security personnel on duty had prior knowledge of the attack.

The family immediately alerted authorities, and the corpse was transported to a nearby mortuary as investigations began.

The Delta State Police Command later confirmed the killing and disclosed that several security guards connected to the property had been detained for questioning.

According to police sources, some other guards believed to be key persons of interest remain at large and are currently being traced by investigators.

The Command assured the public that a full-scale investigation has commenced and that no stone would be left unturned in uncovering those behind the murder.

Residents of Asaba have reacted with fear and anger, describing the killing as a troubling reflection of rising insecurity in the state capital.

Many said the boldness of the attack, allegedly carried out within a residential neighbourhood, underscores the need for stronger surveillance and community policing structures.

Legal associations across Delta State have also condemned the killing, calling it a direct assault on the judiciary and an unacceptable act of brutality against one of its respected members.

They urged security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation, insisting that the killers must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted without delay.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is expected to issue a formal statement as lawyers across the country express outrage and demand accountability.

Tension remains high in Asaba as residents await updates from law enforcement agencies.

Family members have vowed to pursue justice, warning that they will not allow the case to be swept under the carpet.

They appealed to authorities to intensify efforts and ensure that those responsible for the heinous act are brought to justice swiftly.

The death of Justice Okogwu has now become a rallying point for renewed calls to address the spate of violent crimes and unsolved killings in the state.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing and updates will be released as more details emerge.
