Terrorists holding 10 residents of Isapa town in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have issued a chilling ultimatum.
Report says they demanded a ₦300 million ransom within seven days, warning that failure to pay would result in the execution of the captives.
The victims were abducted last Sunday. Despite days of negotiation, none has been released. The kidnappers initially asked for ₦500 million but later reduced the amount to ₦300 million.
Community sources revealed that the gunmen rejected a ₦5 million offer from locals, labeling it “unacceptable” and far below their expectations. The threats have intensified fear across the town.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the Chief Hunter of Isapa, Mr. A. Adeyeye, confirmed the latest communication from the abductors.
He said the kidnappers also claimed responsibility for a recent attack on a C&S Church in Ejiba, Kogi State, where a pastor, his wife, and several worshippers were abducted.
“Despite pleas from the community offering ₦5 million, the armed group rejected the offer outright,” Adeyeye said. “They are determined to get ₦300 million or they will execute the captives.”
Residents described the situation as terrifying and destabilizing. Many have reportedly begun limiting movement, while others are appealing to security agencies for swift action.
Security forces are currently tracking the perpetrators, though no arrests have been reported.
The Chief Hunter urged all residents to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and avoid confrontation with the kidnappers.
The incident adds to growing concerns about the safety of communities in Kwara State. Local authorities have repeatedly warned that ransom payments only encourage further abductions, stressing the need for coordinated security efforts.
This abduction comes amid a spike in terror attacks and kidnappings across Nigeria, highlighting the urgent need for government intervention. Communities like Isapa face heightened vulnerability as criminals exploit gaps in security.
Experts warn that the kidnappers’ threats to escalate violence could result in a broader humanitarian crisis if not addressed promptly.
Residents continue to call on the federal and state governments to prioritize rescue operations and tighten security in the region.
As of press time, the fate of the abducted residents remains uncertain, and security agencies are under pressure to ensure their safe release.
