A senior commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has reportedly been killed during internal fighting in the Darfur region, local sources have said.
The commander, Abdullah Abu al-Qasim, who led the RSF’s Sha’iriya sector, was said to have died in clashes that broke out among RSF factions in the Khazan area late on Sunday.
Sources said the violence started at about 8:00 p.m. local time and was triggered by internal leadership disputes within the paramilitary group.
While the clashes reportedly caused multiple casualties, the exact number of those killed or injured remains unclear.
Abu al-Qasim, also known as “Dawli,” was described as a key RSF field commander in the area. He was also the brother of Muhammad Abu al-Qasim, the Nazir (tribal chief) of the Birgid tribe.
The RSF has not issued an official statement on the reported incident.
Sudan has remained in crisis since April 2023, when conflict erupted between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces, sparking widespread violence and instability across the country, including the Darfur region.
