President Bola Tinubu has appealed for forgiveness from Nigerians he may have offended, as Muslims and Christians commence the 2026 Ramadan fast and Lenten season.
The President made the appeal on Wednesday during the opening of the 2026 Tafsir at the State House Mosque in Abuja.
Speaking on the rare coincidence of Ramadan and Lent, Tinubu said the overlap underscores shared values of sacrifice, discipline, prayer, and self-denial among people of faith.
“Ramadan coincides with Lent, reminding us of our common commitment to sacrifice, discipline, prayer, and self-denial,” he said.
He emphasized that the spiritual season calls for compassion, forgiveness, and service to humanity.
“We start this Ramadan with all the teaching that it brings to us all.
But the main principle is to do good to people, to share love and faith, and to forgive sins.
I say, if I have sinned, forgive me as a Nigerian,” the President added.
The remarks come at a time when both religious observances are encouraging reflection, reconciliation, and renewed commitment to peace and unity across the country.
