NSCDC Deploys 4,000 Operatives To Secure FCT During Eid Festivities

(DDM) – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed about 4,000 personnel across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to provide security during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) learned that the deployment covers major Eid prayer grounds, shopping malls, recreational parks, and other public gathering points across Abuja to ensure peaceful festivities.

Authorities say the large-scale security operation was designed to prevent criminal activities and maintain public order during one of the most significant Islamic celebrations observed by millions of Muslims in Nigeria.

The NSCDC command in the FCT explained that operatives have been strategically positioned to monitor crowds, protect critical infrastructure, and assist other security agencies in responding quickly to emergencies.

The end of Ramadan, marked by Eid-el-Fitr, is traditionally celebrated with large congregational prayers, family gatherings, and recreational outings, often drawing thousands of residents and visitors to public venues.

Security experts note that such gatherings require enhanced safety measures because they create opportunities for pickpocketing, vandalism, and in rare cases potential terrorist threats.

Officials said surveillance teams and patrol units will operate throughout the holiday period to deter crime and reassure citizens.

The NSCDC also advised residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel while celebrating the holiday.

Authorities stressed that citizens should report suspicious movements or unattended objects to security operatives immediately.

The agency added that the operation forms part of broader inter-agency collaboration involving the police, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and other security bodies in the capital city.

Such coordinated security arrangements have become common during major national celebrations including Eid-el-Fitr, Christmas, and Independence Day, when large public gatherings require heightened protection.

In recent years, Nigerian security agencies have increasingly adopted proactive deployment strategies during religious festivities to prevent disruptions and reassure the public.

Analysts say this approach reflects lessons learned from past incidents where large crowds became vulnerable due to inadequate security planning.

The NSCDC leadership emphasized that its officers have been directed to act professionally while ensuring strict compliance with security protocols.

Residents of Abuja are expected to participate in prayers at designated Eid grounds before visiting entertainment centres, restaurants, and family homes to mark the occasion.

Authorities hope the visible presence of security personnel across the capital will deter criminal elements and guarantee a peaceful celebration.

The NSCDC reiterated that the safety of residents and visitors remains a top priority during the festive period.

Officials also encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and adhere to safety guidelines provided by security agencies.

With thousands of personnel on patrol across the FCT, authorities expressed confidence that the Eid-el-Fitr celebration would proceed without major security concerns.
