Anambra to Refund Workers  Erroneous Salary Deductions Over Sit-at-Home

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Anambra State has announced that the state government will refund workers whose February salaries were wrongly deducted over Monday sit-at-home absences.

State TUC Chairman, Chris Ogbonna, said the decision followed complaints from civil servants who reported discrepancies in deductions linked to enforcement of attendance-based salary payments.

The policy, introduced by the administration of Chukwuma Soludo, adjusted workers’ salaries based on attendance in a bid to discourage the Monday sit-at-home observed in parts of the South-East.

However, affected workers said the deductions did not accurately reflect the number of days missed, with some reporting drastic reductions in their pay.

Ogbonna confirmed that the government had acknowledged the errors and promised to process refunds for those affected, following intervention by the union.

He also appealed to the state government to address concerns over contributions to the pension scheme.

While the state Commissioner for Information has yet to officially confirm the refund plan, authorities are expected to review the discrepancies and resolve the issue.
