A growing wellness trend encourages people to take a daily shot of olive oil first thing in the morning, with claims that it can heal the gut, improve digestion, and boost overall health. But medical experts say the reality may be more complex and in some cases, misleading.

Olive oil, particularly extra virgin varieties, is widely recognized for its health benefits. Rich in healthy fats and antioxidants, it plays a key role in heart-friendly diets and has been linked to reduced risk of Cardiovascular Disease. However, drinking it in concentrated amounts on an empty stomach is a different matter.
