2Baba, born Innocent Idibia, has expressed confidence in the long-term future of Afrobeats, dismissing concerns that the genre could lose its global relevance.
During a recent interview on Wazobia FM Lagos, the veteran artist stated clearly that Afrobeats remains strong and continues to evolve, largely due to the steady rise of new talent within Nigeria’s music scene. According to him, the industry is far from declining, as younger artists are consistently introducing fresh sounds and creative styles that keep the genre dynamic.
He explained that the growing number of emerging musicians is a key factor in sustaining Afrobeats, noting that many of them bring originality and energy that resonate with both local and international audiences. This, he said, ensures that the genre will continue to thrive and expand globally.
2Baba also highlighted the importance of innovation among younger artists, praising their distinct musical approaches and vocal delivery. As an example, he referenced a recent reinterpretation of his song If Love Is A Crime by a rising act, describing the performance as impressive and a sign of how new voices are building on the foundation laid by earlier generations.
The music icon concluded that the future of Afrobeats is secure, emphasizing that the next generation of artists will continue to push the sound forward and maintain its presence on the global stage.
