Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has accused the United States of secretly preparing for a ground invasion, even while publicly talking about peace negotiations.
Speaking on Sunday, Ghalibaf said the US is sending mixed signals talking about dialogue on one hand, while allegedly planning military action behind the scenes.
According to him, Iranian forces are ready and waiting.
He warned that if American troops step onto Iranian soil, they will face serious resistance.
He also threatened consequences for US allies in the region.
His comments come as the conflict in the Middle East enters its second month.
The war reportedly began on February 28 after joint airstrikes by the US and Israel on Iran, which killed the country’s supreme leader and escalated tensions across the region.
The situation has already started affecting global trade, especially in the Strait of Hormuz a key route for oil and gas shipments which is now nearly shut down due to the fighting.
Ghalibaf called on Iranians to stay united, describing the situation as a major global conflict that has reached a critical point.
He insisted that Iran is determined to defend itself and make the US “regret” its actions.
