ADC Slams Fresh Bandit Attacks In Katsina, Demands Urgent Action

(DDM) – The African Democratic Congress has strongly condemned the renewed wave of bandit attacks in communities across Katsina State, describing the situation as alarming and a direct threat to national security.

The party raised serious concerns over the increasing frequency and brutality of attacks targeting rural settlements in the state.

In a statement, the ADC decried the continued killings, abductions, and destruction of homes and farmlands by armed groups operating in affected areas.

The party stressed that the persistence of these attacks underscores deep failures in the country’s security response system and demands immediate corrective action.

According to the ADC, several communities have been repeatedly targeted, forcing residents to flee their homes and seek refuge in safer locations.

The statement noted that women and children are among the most vulnerable, often bearing the brunt of displacement and humanitarian hardship.

The party warned that the worsening security situation is crippling local economies, particularly agriculture, which remains the backbone of rural livelihoods in Katsina.

It explained that farmers are increasingly unable to access their lands due to fear of attacks, raising concerns over food security in the region.

The ADC called on the federal government to deploy more security personnel and modern surveillance technology to combat banditry effectively.

It also urged intelligence agencies to strengthen information gathering and community-based security networks.

The party further emphasised the importance of collaboration between federal, state, and local authorities in tackling the crisis.

Observers note that Katsina, along with other North-West states, has experienced a surge in banditry, kidnapping, and violent raids in recent years.

Security analysts argue that the attacks are often linked to organised criminal networks exploiting weak security presence in remote areas.

They also point out that porous borders and limited infrastructure have made it easier for armed groups to operate.

The ADC reiterated the need for a comprehensive approach that goes beyond military action to include social and economic interventions.

It highlighted unemployment, poverty, and lack of education as underlying factors fueling insecurity.

The party called for urgent humanitarian assistance for displaced persons, including food, shelter, and medical support.

It stressed that restoring confidence among citizens requires not only security measures but also visible government support for affected communities.

The ADC concluded by urging authorities to act swiftly and decisively to end the cycle of violence and ensure lasting peace in Katsina State.
