Your flights are irresponsible, dangerous provocation’, North Korea warns South Korea

North Korea has accused South Korea sending propaganda drones to Pyongyang, the country’s capital.

The Asian country warned their southern counterpart, on October 11, 2024, to desist from sending the drones, describing the flights as an “irresponsible and dangerous provocation”.

According to Aljazeera, North Korea disclosed that South Korea had sent the drones to Pyongyang three times.

The unmanned drones carry propaganda pamphlets, and the country threatened to respond using force, if the flights continued.

Its Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the devices were spotted above Pyongyang’s night sky on October 3.

He said this occurrence repeated itself on October 9 and October 10 of this year.

The ministry declared that South Korea was endangering its security and infringing on its “sacred” sovereignty.

It was cited by the state news agency KCNA as calling the flights an “irresponsible and dangerous provocation”.

This may cause an armed conflict and lead to a war between the two sides, observers noted.

The statement went on to say that North Korean soldiers would be ready with “all means of attack” to destroy the South Korean military and the southern portion of the border.

“The safety lock on our trigger has now been released”, the Foreign Ministry stated.

South Korea responds

South Korea’s Defence Minister Kim Yong-hyun, however, declared that no drones had been sent into the North.

During a parliamentary audit, he responded to questions concerning North Korea’s assertion by telling legislators: “We have not done that”.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea declared in a statement that it “cannot confirm the truth of North Korea’s claims”.

Pyongyang bears “all responsibility for the recent series of events”, the statement added.

They also mentioned Pyongyang’s habit of launching garbage-filled balloons into South Korean airspace.

It cited “despicable, low-grade and internationally embarrassing acts of filth and garbage balloons and other provocations”.

“More balloons were being sent on Friday”, it said.

North Korea has been sending thousands of balloons filled with plastic, paper garbage, and other trash since May.

According to reports, this was done as payback for South Korean activists who crossed the border with balloons carrying propaganda flyers critical of North Korea.

In response to the North’s trash balloons, the military of South Korea has set up loudspeakers along the border to play K-pop and propaganda.

The announcement of North Korea’s army to “permanently shut off and block the southern border” with South Korea precedes the release of the new balloons.

The North Korean army stated that the defense systems would be constructed to handle the “confrontational hysteria” of the US and South Korean militaries.

Earlier: Pyongyang to ‘permanently’ shut border with South Korea

In order to avert an unintentional conflict, the North Korean army announced on October 9 that it was taking steps to “permanently shut off and block the southern border” with the South and that it had notified the US military.

In a statement, Pyongyang declared that it would “cut off roads and railways” that may have allowed people to travel between the two Koreas.

it was essentially a symbolic gesture, given that cross-border trade and travel between both countries have been suspended for years.

The state of inter-Korean ties has reached an all-time low as Pyongyang closes reunification agencies.

It went far to designate South Korea as its “principal enemy”.

During a crucial parliamentary meeting, nuclear-armed North was expected to renounce a historic inter-Korean accord inked in 1991.

This was reported as a push to formally designate the South as an enemy state.

However, in the report naming the new defense commander, state media made no mention of such action.

Later, the army declared that it was preparing “a substantial military step” towards “completely cut off roads and railways connected to the South Korea.

It also expressed readiness to “fortify the relevant areas of our side with strong defence structures”.

It disclosed that it has sent a telephone message to US forces to “prevent any misjudgment and accidental conflict”.
