2027: ADC to appeal ruling blocking INEC recognition of congresses

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, says the party will appeal a Federal High Court decision that bars the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising its state congresses.

The ruling has thrown fresh uncertainty into the party’s internal processes, effectively putting on hold congresses conducted by committees set up by Mark’s National Working Committee.

Speaking in Abuja after meeting with the party’s legal team, Mark downplayed concerns about the growing number of court cases, insisting the ADC would overcome the challenge.

“You have nothing to fear regarding the litigations before the party,” he said. “We will be on the ballot for every election.”

He disclosed that the party has already begun the appeal process and filed for a stay of execution of the judgment.

According to him, the ADC is prepared to pursue all legal options to resolve the dispute and stay on track for the 2027 elections.

“We are ready for these cases and will do everything within the law to overcome them,” Mark added.

The legal tussle comes at a critical time for the opposition party, which is ramping up preparations ahead of the next general elections.

Mark also struck a personal note, saying he would take an active role in the fight. “Though I’m not a lawyer, I will lead from the front,” he said, expressing confidence that the party would prevail.

Earlier, the party’s legal team had briefed the leadership on the implications of the court ruling and the strategy moving forward.
