Lagos State is set to host a large-scale interfaith prayer gathering organised in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s expected re-election bid, as political mobilisation activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, scheduled to hold at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, is projected to attract tens of thousands of participants drawn from different religious backgrounds, political groups, civil society organisations, and community associations across Nigeria. Organisers have estimated attendance figures at about 55,000 people, making it one of the largest coordinated prayer assemblies in recent political history.
The initiative is being spearheaded by the Renewed Hope Network, a pro-government mobilisation platform aligned with the administration’s broader political and governance agenda. The group describes the gathering as a national prayer engagement aimed at seeking divine intervention for peace, stability, and continued development in Nigeria under President Tinubu’s leadership.
At a briefing in Lagos, the Director General of the Renewed Hope Network, Mohammed Danmole, said the programme was conceived as a unifying platform that blends faith-based intercession with civic responsibility. He explained that the organisers intend to create an avenue where Nigerians from different religious traditions can come together in a shared expression of hope for the country’s progress.
According to him, the gathering is not limited to spiritual supplication alone but also reflects growing grassroots enthusiasm for the current administration. He noted that the initiative aligns with what the group describes as the Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on economic reform, infrastructure renewal, governance improvement, and national unity.
The programme is expected to feature prominent religious figures from both Christianity and Islam, including leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria, senior Islamic scholars, and other respected clerics. These religious leaders will jointly lead prayers dedicated to national peace, leadership wisdom, and socio-economic recovery.
Organisers say the interfaith nature of the event is intentional, designed to reflect Nigeria’s religious diversity and to promote harmony among citizens. They argue that bringing together faith leaders on a single platform sends a strong message of unity at a time when the country continues to navigate economic challenges and security concerns.
Traditional rulers, youth leaders, women associations, labour groups, and market stakeholders are also expected to participate in the event. Mobilisation efforts have reportedly been ongoing across several states, with coordinators working to ensure representation from all geopolitical zones of the country.
Beyond the prayer sessions, the programme will also include speeches, goodwill messages, and discussions centred on national development, governance expectations, and citizen engagement. Organisers say the platform will encourage participants to reflect on their role in supporting national stability and democratic consolidation.
Political observers view the gathering as part of early-stage political alignment activities ahead of the next election cycle. While such events are often framed in religious and nationalistic terms, analysts note that they also serve as platforms for building political visibility and strengthening support structures for incumbents and aspirants.
Despite the political interpretation, organisers insist that the primary objective remains spiritual intercession for Nigeria. They maintain that the country’s challenges require both policy-driven solutions and collective prayers from citizens across all faiths.
Security arrangements have been reinforced in anticipation of the large turnout. Lagos State security agencies are expected to deploy personnel across strategic locations, including the venue, access roads, and surrounding areas, to ensure crowd control and maintain order throughout the programme. Emergency response units will also be on standby.
Religious leaders involved in the planning have urged participants to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid any form of political confrontation or provocation during the event. They emphasised that the gathering is meant to strengthen unity rather than deepen political divisions.
In recent years, Nigeria has witnessed a growing trend of religiously themed national events that intersect with political developments, reflecting the strong influence of faith-based organisations in public life. These gatherings often serve as platforms for national reflection, leadership endorsement, and civic mobilisation.
As preparations continue, organisers express optimism that the Lagos prayer rally will send a strong message of unity, faith, and national commitment. They describe it as an opportunity for Nigerians to collectively seek divine guidance for the nation’s future while reinforcing support for leadership continuity and national stability.
