IBOGUN, OGUN STATE — Fear and tension have gripped students of Olabisi Onabanjo University following another violent attack by armed gunmen on student hostels in the Ibogun area of Ogun State.

The latest incident, described by residents as the second recent attack on student accommodations in the community, reportedly occurred late at night when the assailants stormed the hostels and fired sporadically into the air.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen created panic among students as they forced their way into buildings and dispossessed residents of valuables, including mobile phones, cash, and personal belongings.

During the attack, the suspects reportedly stole a vehicle belonging to one of the students before fleeing the area.

Students who spoke after the incident described moments of fear and confusion as residents attempted to hide or escape during the shooting.

Some victims reportedly sustained minor injuries while trying to flee from the attackers, although no fatalities were immediately confirmed.

The repeated attacks have heightened concerns about insecurity around off-campus student residences in the Ibogun axis, where many students live due to accommodation shortages.

Student leaders and residents have accused security agencies of failing to provide adequate protection despite earlier incidents in the area.

They also expressed frustration over what they described as delayed security response during emergency situations.

The attack has triggered renewed calls for increased police patrols, improved street lighting, and stronger community surveillance around student-populated areas.

Parents and guardians have also reportedly raised concerns over the safety of students living outside campus premises.

Security analysts say criminal groups often target student communities because they are perceived as vulnerable and less protected.

Residents claim that the attackers appeared organised and familiar with the environment, raising suspicions that local informants may have aided the operation.

Community leaders have called on the Ogun State Government and security agencies to urgently strengthen security presence in the area to prevent further attacks.

Authorities are reportedly investigating the incident and working to trace the stolen vehicle and identify those responsible for the robbery.

The university community has also appealed for calm while urging students to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary night movements.

Some students are now demanding the establishment of additional campus security measures and emergency response channels to improve safety.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity affecting tertiary institution communities across parts of Nigeria.

Attention now shifts to the police investigation and whether additional security deployments will be introduced around student hostels in the affected area.
