The Adamawa State Government has officially flagged off a major electric mobility initiative aimed at transforming transportation, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and expanding economic opportunities for young people across the state.
The initiative was unveiled at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Jimeta by the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, as part of his administration’s broader strategy to modernize the transport sector and promote sustainable development under what he described as the “Fresh Air Government” agenda.
Governor Fintiri announced that the state government will procure and distribute 1,000 electric tricycles to youths across Adamawa State at a subsidized rate. He explained that the intervention is designed to reduce transportation costs, create employment, and improve the livelihood of residents, particularly young people who form a significant portion of the population.

According to the governor, the initiative is also part of efforts to reduce the overdependence on petrol-powered transportation, which has continued to strain household incomes due to fluctuating fuel prices. He emphasized that electric mobility offers a cleaner, cheaper, and more sustainable alternative that aligns with global environmental standards.
Fintiri noted that the state government has already made substantial investments in renewable energy infrastructure, revealing that over 6,000 households across various local government areas have been powered through solar energy systems. He said this energy transition is essential in supporting the rollout of electric mobility across the state.

The governor highlighted the importance of partnerships in achieving the vision, stating that collaborations with private sector players such as Sparrow Mobility Limited have been instrumental in driving innovation in the transport sector. He explained that the partnership has led to the assembly and commissioning of electric tricycles within the state, a development he described as a milestone in local industrial growth and youth empowerment.
In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Transport Development, Wunfe Anthony, described the electric mobility project as a transformative step that will significantly reduce operational costs for tricycle operators while easing transportation challenges in both urban and rural areas. She added that the initiative is expected to improve productivity and contribute positively to the state’s gross domestic product through enhanced economic activity.

Anthony further commended the collaboration between the ministry and private partners, noting that it has created a sustainable framework for innovation and transport development in Adamawa State.
Speaking at the event, the Group Chief Executive Officer of A4&T Company, Ayodeji Ademilua, disclosed that the company’s engagement with the state government began following a feasibility visit in May 2025. He explained that the assessment revealed strong potential for electric mobility adoption in Adamawa, particularly in addressing fuel dependency and transportation inefficiencies.
Ademilua stated that the electric tricycles being introduced represent affordability, sustainability, and economic empowerment for residents. He praised the state government for providing an enabling environment for investment and innovation.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed that several mini grid projects with a combined capacity of 35 megawatts have been developed across Adamawa State. He noted that additional projects are currently ongoing, attributing the progress to the commitment of the state government in expanding access to reliable energy.
Representatives of organized labour and state media also commended the initiative. The Adamawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Dr. Barth Nyalas, and the General Manager of Adamawa Sunshine, Muhammad Tukur Abbo, described Governor Fintiri as a transformative leader whose policies have significantly improved infrastructure and social welfare in the state.
They praised the administration for prioritizing youth empowerment, renewable energy, and transportation reform, stating that the initiatives are setting a new development benchmark for Adamawa State.
The highlight of the event was the official commissioning of the electric tricycles, followed by inspections of the company’s assembly site at the Federal Housing Estate in Girei Local Government Area, as well as the solar energy farm at Modibbo Adama University, Yola.
The initiative is expected to strengthen Adamawa’s position as one of the leading states in renewable energy adoption and sustainable transport innovation in Nigeria.
