Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or “Akpi,” has taken to social media to express anger after being charged ₦203,500 for parking his vehicle at an airport for four days.
The rapper said he was shocked by the bill when he returned, describing the amount as excessive and unexpected.
In a video that has since gone viral, Speed Darlington explained that he chose to drive himself to the airport in order to save money on transportation. He said he anticipated paying between ₦50,000 and ₦70,000 for the duration of the parking.
However, he was stunned to discover the final charge far exceeded his expectations.
He used the moment to criticise the rising cost of living in Nigeria, questioning why airport parking fees were so expensive. He also compared the situation to what he believes similar services would cost in Europe.
Expressing his frustration, he said:
“E no go better for Tinubu. Unexpected expense. E pain me die. I don tire to pay for taxi to airport, I say make I carry my motor come airport. Pata pata I’m travelling for 4 days, when I come back it’d either 70k or 50k. They just collected N203,500 from me for parking for 4 days bro. E no go better for Tinubu. Nigeria is now very expensive. They took my food money from me. E shock me I stand there, I no know wetin I wan do. I’m in pains. Nigeria is hell fire. 50k a night, are we in Europe?”
His comments have sparked mixed reactions online. While some users sympathised with his experience, others criticised him for not confirming the parking rates beforehand.
Supporters argued that the fees are indeed high, while critics described his reaction as unnecessary and attention-driven.
