Liverpool Shift Focus to Bradley Barcola as Yan Diomande Move Slips Away

Liverpool’s summer transfer strategy is beginning to take a new direction after the club reportedly cooled its pursuit of highly rated winger Yan Diomande, with Paris Saint-Germain now leading the race for the teenage sensation. The Merseyside giants are instead exploring several alternative attacking options, including French international Bradley Barcola, as new manager Andoni Iraola continues reshaping the squad ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.

The Reds entered the transfer window determined to strengthen their attacking department following the departure of long serving star Mohamed Salah. While several exciting young talents have been linked with a move to Anfield, Liverpool now appear ready to change course after refusing to increase their valuation for Diomande.

Reports indicate that Liverpool made a significant offer worth around £86 million for the 19 year old winger but decided against matching the financial package demanded by his current club. That decision has opened the door for Paris Saint-Germain, who are believed to have reached advanced negotiations with both the player’s representatives and his club over a long term contract that could keep him in France until 2031.

Rather than entering a costly bidding war, Liverpool’s recruitment team has turned attention toward other promising attackers capable of fitting Iraola’s tactical philosophy.

Among the leading names on Liverpool’s shortlist is Bradley Barcola, one of France’s brightest attacking talents. The dynamic winger has earned widespread praise for his pace, close control, creativity and composure in the final third.

Barcola has continued his rapid development over the past few seasons, establishing himself as one of European football’s most exciting wide forwards. Comfortable on either flank, the French international possesses the versatility Liverpool value highly in modern attackers.

His ability to beat defenders in one on one situations, create chances and contribute goals has made him an attractive option for several elite European clubs.

Liverpool believe Barcola’s technical quality, intelligence and attacking movement would perfectly complement the club’s evolving style under Iraola, who is expected to build a more aggressive pressing system combined with quick transitions.

Apart from Barcola, Liverpool are also monitoring several other emerging stars across Europe.

German youngster Said El Mala remains under close observation after enjoying an impressive breakthrough season. Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh has also attracted strong interest following his excellent performances, while Belgian prospect Matias Fernandez Pardo continues to impress Liverpool’s scouting department with his maturity and versatility.

Club officials are expected to assess all available options carefully before deciding which player represents the best long term investment.

Meanwhile, another important storyline surrounds Federico Chiesa.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Italian winger is expected to report for Liverpool’s pre season preparations determined to fight for his place under Andoni Iraola.

Chiesa endured a frustrating first campaign at Anfield after struggling for regular playing time during Arne Slot’s final season in charge. Injuries and fierce competition limited his opportunities despite showing flashes of his undeniable quality whenever called upon.

With Salah no longer part of the squad, Chiesa now believes he has a genuine opportunity to become an important figure in Liverpool’s rebuilt attack.

Interest from Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli has been reported throughout the summer, but the player appears focused on proving himself in England before considering any potential move elsewhere.

Liverpool’s midfield is also attracting significant transfer attention.

Italian giants Inter Milan have intensified their pursuit of academy graduate Curtis Jones, although negotiations remain complicated.

Inter are reportedly unwilling to meet Liverpool’s asking price of approximately €40 million, instead valuing the England international closer to €25 million.

Arsenal have also monitored Jones in recent weeks, recognising his technical ability, versatility and Premier League experience.

Despite growing interest, Liverpool are not under pressure to sell one of their homegrown talents and remain confident Jones can still play an important role in Iraola’s long term plans.

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has also entered the discussion surrounding Salah’s replacement by suggesting that AC Milan and United States forward Christian Pulisic could thrive at Anfield.

Fowler praised Pulisic’s recent performances in Serie A, highlighting his improved consistency, creativity and previous Premier League experience as qualities that could benefit Liverpool.

Club legend Vladimir Smicer has meanwhile encouraged Iraola to build his new project around German playmaker Florian Wirtz.

The former Champions League winner believes Wirtz possesses the intelligence, vision and leadership qualities needed to become Liverpool’s creative heartbeat for years to come.

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has also shared his thoughts on the club’s future under Iraola.

Klopp acknowledged that managerial success depends on tactical preparation, squad harmony and a degree of good fortune, expressing confidence that Liverpool remain capable of competing for major honours if their recruitment strategy succeeds.

With several high profile transfer negotiations unfolding simultaneously, Liverpool face one of their most significant rebuilding summers in recent history.

Replacing the influence of Mohamed Salah will not be straightforward, but the club’s recruitment department continues to search for young, technically gifted players capable of sustaining Liverpool’s competitive ambitions.

Whether Bradley Barcola eventually becomes the headline arrival remains uncertain, yet one thing is increasingly clear. Liverpool are committed to assembling a squad capable of challenging once again for Premier League and European success under Andoni Iraola.
