Following the alleged assault, the complainant reportedly sought immediate medical attention at a specialist sexual assault support centre.
Medical professionals documented her injuries, collected forensic evidence and provided photographs that were later submitted to New Zealand Police as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are also reported to have reviewed hotel security camera footage alongside witness statements and forensic findings before determining whether sufficient evidence exists to proceed with criminal charges.
The complainant further claimed that she notified officials associated with the Cape Verde Football Federation shortly after the alleged incident.
According to reports, she later submitted formal complaints to both FIFA and the Cape Verde Football Federation requesting disciplinary action against Mendes and questioning why he remained part of the national squad despite the ongoing investigation.
