A six-month-old baby was rescued alive after a fire gutted part of a residential building in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State on Saturday night.

The incident occurred at Olomi Compound at about 8:38 p.m., with witnesses attributing the fire to an unattended gas leak on the ground floor of a private one-storey building.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Reform, Morrof Akinwande, said the Oyo State Fire Service received a distress call from a resident, Mr Abiodun Mayowa.

According to Akinwande, firefighters led by PFS II Oluwaleye responded immediately and arrived at the scene to find the ground floor of the three-room building engulfed in flames.

The firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to the upper floor and nearby buildings.

During the operation, the six-month-old baby was successfully rescued alive from the burning building.

Akinwande confirmed that the fire was caused by an unattended gas leak.

Following the incident, fire officials conducted a brief safety awareness session for residents and bystanders, educating them on fire prevention measures.
