Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on the United Nations and international human rights organisations to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
Makinde made the appeal on Monday while receiving the rescued pupils and their teachers at the Government House in Ibadan.
According to the governor, the circumstances surrounding the May 15 abduction are grave enough to warrant an independent international investigation.
He said the incident raised serious concerns that should not be overlooked, stressing the need for a transparent probe into the kidnapping.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are sufficiently grave and unusual to warrant independent scrutiny,” Makinde said during the broadcast.
The governor’s call comes after the victims were rescued and reunited with the state government following weeks in captivity.
