Iran says it targeted US military base in Kuwait

Iran on Friday said it carried out drone attacks on United States military infrastructure in Kuwait in retaliation for recent American strikes on the Islamic Republic.

According to Iranian state television, the operation targeted deployment sites of US forces and logistics centres in Kuwait.

“The attacks were in response to the crimes of the arrogant enemy and in revenge for the blood of the martyrs of the homeland,” the report said.

The strikes followed a series of Iranian attacks on US allies in the Gulf after Tehran accused Washington of attacking an airport, a railway station and two bridges in Iran, killing seven people.

Kuwait earlier confirmed that it was responding to missile and drone attacks, a day after the Gulf state came under aerial assault from Iran.

Bahrain and Qatar also reported attacks early Friday.

Authorities in Bahrain activated air raid sirens and urged residents to take shelter after Iranian state media claimed Tehran had targeted US aircraft and helicopters at a military base in the country.

In Qatar, the Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems intercepted a missile attack, while explosions were heard across the capital, Doha.
