LAFIA, Nigeria — Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has approved a cabinet reshuffle that saw six commissioners relieved of their appointments as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery during the final phase of his administration.
The decision was announced after the State Executive Council meeting in Lafia by the Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji, who said the changes were intended to inject fresh ideas into the administration.
The commissioners affected by the reshuffle headed the Ministries of Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, and Security.
According to the state government, the exercise is aimed at repositioning the administration to achieve its remaining policy objectives before the end of its tenure.
Magaji said the decision should not be interpreted as a reflection of poor performance by the affected commissioners.
He noted that the government recognised their commitment, dedication and contributions to the administration throughout their period in office.
According to him, the reshuffle is designed to introduce renewed energy into governance while ensuring that the administration delivers fully on its mandate.
He added that the former commissioners would continue to remain part of the government and could be assigned other responsibilities in the future.
The Secretary to the State Government said the names of the new commissioners would be announced through the appropriate official channels at a later date.
Beyond the cabinet changes, the State Executive Council also reviewed strategies aimed at increasing Nasarawa State’s internally generated revenue.
Discussions focused on maximising the economic opportunities created by growing investments in the state’s lithium mining and processing industry.
The meeting followed the recent inauguration of one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants located in Nasarawa State.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was represented at the inauguration by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
State officials believe the expansion of lithium processing activities will strengthen the state’s economy, create employment opportunities and boost government revenue through increased investment and industrial development.
The latest cabinet reshuffle forms part of Governor Sule’s efforts to reposition his administration as it continues implementing development programmes across key sectors of the state economy.
