Inter Miami have officially strengthened their already star-studded squad with the signing of Brazilian midfield legend Casemiro on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Manchester United.
The Major League Soccer club confirmed the arrival of the experienced midfielder on Tuesday, bringing one of the most decorated players of his generation to South Florida. Casemiro has signed a contract that will keep him at Inter Miami until the end of the 2027 MLS season, with the club holding an option to extend the deal through the 2029 campaign.
The move marks the end of Casemiro’s successful spell in English football, where he spent four seasons with Manchester United after joining from Real Madrid in 2022. During his time at Old Trafford, the Brazilian helped the club win the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup while making more than 150 appearances in all competitions.
Before moving to England, Casemiro established himself as one of the finest defensive midfielders in football history during an illustrious career at Real Madrid. He won five UEFA Champions League titles, multiple La Liga crowns and numerous domestic and international honours, becoming a cornerstone of one of the most successful teams in European football.
His arrival further enhances an Inter Miami squad that already boasts several world renowned stars, including Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul. The signing reflects the club’s ambition to remain one of the biggest attractions in Major League Soccer while competing for more domestic and international silverware.
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas described Casemiro as a player whose leadership, professionalism and winning mentality perfectly match the club’s long-term vision. Club president David Beckham also welcomed the Brazilian, praising his remarkable achievements and expressing confidence that his experience will inspire both teammates and supporters.
Speaking after completing the move, Casemiro said he was excited to begin a new chapter in his career and expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him by the club. The 34-year-old added that he remains highly motivated to compete for trophies and contribute to the continued growth of football in the United States.
The Brazilian international arrives with an outstanding résumé. Across spells with São Paulo, FC Porto, Real Madrid and Manchester United, he has made more than 660 senior club appearances, scoring over 70 goals while providing more than 60 assists. He has also earned over 90 caps for Brazil and represented his country at three FIFA World Cups.
Although the transfer has generated excitement among supporters, it has also attracted attention from Major League Soccer. League officials have confirmed they are reviewing the process surrounding the acquisition of Casemiro’s MLS discovery rights, though the investigation is administrative and does not affect his registration as an Inter Miami player.
For Inter Miami, the signing represents another statement of intent. Since the arrival of Lionel Messi, the club has continued to attract some of the biggest names in world football, transforming itself into one of the sport’s fastest-growing global brands.
Casemiro’s experience, tactical intelligence and leadership are expected to provide greater balance in midfield while allowing Inter Miami to compete at the highest level in MLS and other competitions. His ability to protect the defence, dictate the tempo of matches and mentor younger players makes him a valuable addition to an already formidable squad.
As preparations continue for the remainder of the season, Inter Miami supporters will be eager to see Casemiro line up alongside Messi and the club’s other stars. If he can replicate the consistency and success that defined his career in Europe, the Brazilian could play a pivotal role in helping the Florida club chase more silverware and strengthen its growing reputation on the global football stage.
