French striker Bafétimbi Gomis retires

French footballer Bafétimbi Gomis has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39, bringing an end to a remarkable 18-year career.

The seasoned striker leaves behind a legacy of impressive goal-scoring exploits, trophies, and memorable performances for both club and country.

*Early Success and Rise to Prominence

Gomis’ professional journey began in 2004 with Saint-Étienne, where he spent five seasons and scored 40 goals in 142 appearances.

His impressive form earned him a move to Lyon in 2009, signing a five-year contract worth €13 million.

During his time at Lyon, Gomis netted 95 goals in 244 matches, winning the Coupe de France and Trophée des Champions in 2012.

*International Experience and Success Abroad

In 2014, Gomis joined Swansea City on a free transfer, scoring 13 goals in 64 Premier League appearances.

He later played for Galatasaray, becoming the top scorer in the Süper Lig during the 2017-2018 season with 29 goals.

Gomis also had successful stints with Al-Hilal, winning the AFC Champions League in 2019, and Kawasaki Frontale.

*International Career

At the international level, Gomis represented France 12 times, scoring three goals between 2008 and 2013. He was part of the French squad at UEFA Euro 2008.
