Voting was disrupted at Modakeke Ward 10 in Osun State on Saturday after individuals suspected to be policemen allegedly seized election materials and dispersed voters and electoral officials.
According to an eyewitness, voting had commenced peacefully before the suspected policemen arrived at the polling area, took away the election materials and allegedly released tear gas.
“All the election agents and corps members took to their heels as soon as they arrived,” the witness said.
The incident reportedly triggered panic, forcing voters, party agents and election officials to abandon the polling area for their safety.
However, the identities and status of the individuals who allegedly seized the materials could not be independently verified as of the time of filing the report.
There was also no immediate confirmation from the Nigeria Police Force or the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the alleged seizure or the circumstances surrounding the disruption.
The incident occurred as voters across Osun State participated in the governorship election to elect the state’s next governor.
