Veteran Nollywood actor Victor Osuagwu has sparked a conversation about the responsibility of actors and the kind of impact entertainment should have on society.

Osuagwu argued that acting should not be driven solely by the desire for fame or public recognition. According to him, actors should also use their talent to pass meaningful messages and contribute positively to society.

The Nollywood veteran suggested that an actor’s work should have the ability to teach, educate or leave audiences with something valuable beyond entertainment.

His comments have generated discussions among entertainment enthusiasts about the purpose of acting and the responsibilities that come with having a public platform.

While some agreed with Osuagwu, arguing that films can influence attitudes, shape conversations and educate audiences, others noted that entertainment does not always need to carry a serious lesson to be valuable.

The debate also touches on the changing nature of Nollywood, where actors increasingly use social media to build personal brands and connect directly with audiences.

For Osuagwu, however, popularity alone should not be the ultimate measure of an actor’s success.

His remarks have renewed conversations about whether entertainers should be judged not only by their ability to attract attention but also by the impact their work leaves on viewers.
