ASABA, NIGERIA — The wife of embattled Delta State content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, has expressed confidence that her husband will be freed from the rape allegation involving the late 20-year-old Favour Agbro, even as she apologised to women who felt offended by her initial public defence of him .
The mother of four, who has been married to Ogbonna for eight years, first broke her silence in a video posted to her husband’s social media page on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following his arrest by the Delta State Police Command . In that initial statement, she admitted that her husband had an affair with the deceased but firmly rejected the rape allegation against him .
“Odogwu Asaba did not rape Favour. Odogwu Asaba only had an affair with the girl,” she stated in the video . “He cannot rape; he has never. Even when he did not have fame, he did not rape anybody; is it now?” .
The woman said she had been following developments surrounding the case and chose to speak after learning more about the matter, urging the public not to treat social media discussions as a substitute for the legal process . “Social media is not a courtroom. You people should bear that in mind,” she said .
She also emphasised her unwavering loyalty to her husband, saying, “No matter what happened, he is my husband and I stand with him 100%. I’m not going to turn my back on him” .
However, just days later, in a video that circulated online on September 1, 2026, the wife made a surprising U-turn, publicly apologising to women who had taken issue with her earlier defence of her husband .
She admitted that fear and financial dependence played a major role in her initial decision to stand by him . “I want to use this opportunity to apologise to all the women who feel offended because I stood by my husband, Odogwu Asaba. I shouldn’t have done that. I shouldn’t have shown my face and that of my children,” she said .
She explained that throughout their marriage, she had been a full-time housewife with no independent income, business, or professional skills, and that her husband had been the sole provider for her, their four children, and even her parents . “I was scared. I was scared if he comes out, he’s going to reject me,” she revealed .
Despite the apology, the mother of four maintained that she still believes her husband’s account, stating that Ogbonna admitted to being involved with Favour Agbro but denied forcing himself on her . “I believe him 100%. Even if I can’t defend it. Even if I can’t prove it. I believe him,” she insisted . She also pushed back against calls for her to leave the marriage, asserting, “I am going to fight for the man that made me a mother” .
The controversy stems from allegations by the Delta State Police Command that Ogbonna invited Favour Agbro to Asaba on June 1, 2026, under the guise of teaching her how to monetise her TikTok and Facebook pages through content creation . Police claimed he subsequently took her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped and physically assaulted her . Favour returned home in a distressed state, recounted the ordeal to her parents, and recorded a video describing what she said happened to her before she later ingested a toxic substance and died while receiving treatment .
The Delta State Police Command confirmed that Ogbonna would be charged to court, and investigations remain ongoing . Ogbonna has not been convicted of any offence, and the rape allegation remains subject to investigation and determination through the appropriate legal process .
