The Ondo State governorship election has been marred by controversy, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) slamming the exercise as a “fake” and the “worst election” conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), the PDP’s strong disapproval came after INEC declared Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner, securing 366,781 votes against Agboola Ajayi’s 117,845 votes.
The PDP alleged that the election was plagued by electoral swindling, deceit, and manipulation, with widespread election merchandising and monetization by the APC.
The party claimed that the APC exploited the economic hardship faced by Nigerians, using poverty as a tool to manipulate the election outcome.
In a statement released by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba on Sunday, it was stated that the November 16 governorship election held in the state fell short of expectations and requirements of credible electoral process.
Ologunagba stated “the devious tactic was made possible by the APC’s exploitation of Nigeria’s economic hardship, which has left many citizens vulnerable to manipulation.”
“By leveraging poverty as a tool, the APC successfully influenced the election outcome, suppressing the true will of the people.”
The PDP urged Nigerians and the global community to condemn the APC’s blatant electoral manipulation in the Ondo State governorship election.
“We demand swift and decisive action to address these injustices, ensuring the survival of Nigeria’s democratic system.”
“The PDP has vowed to review the election and its outcome, promising to take “appropriate action” to defend and to bring accountability to the process of democracy,” Ologunagba stated.
