Nollywood actor Charles Inojie has revealed that a movie he starred in in 2011 has resurfaced on TikTok, where it is reportedly generating about 350 million views.
The actor shared the achievement while reflecting on the film and its unexpected renewed popularity more than a decade after its release.
According to Inojie, the movie has also attracted attention in Costa Rica, with reports about the film making headlines in the country and the Costa Rican government commenting on it.
“The Costa Rica movie I did in 2011 is currently doing about 350 million views on TikTok. It’s been in the news in Costa Rica, and its government has spoken about the movie,” Inojie said.
The actor described the production as particularly significant in his career because it marked the first movie in which he starred alongside two heavyweight Nigerian comedy actors, Mr Ibu and Nkem Owoh.
“That movie was the first movie I starred in with heavyweight comedic actors in person of Mr Ibu and Nkem Owoh,” he added.
The revelation highlights the growing ability of social media platforms such as TikTok to revive older Nollywood productions and introduce them to audiences who may not have watched them when they were originally released.
For Inojie, the renewed attention also serves as a reminder of the lasting reach of Nigerian films and the ability of Nollywood productions from previous generations to find new audiences years after their theatrical or home-video runs.
The reported 350 million views represent a remarkable level of digital exposure for a movie released in 2011, particularly as short-form video platforms continue to drive renewed interest in older African films and entertainment content.
