A woman has praised Nigerian-born pastor Tobi Adegboyega for what she described as his efforts to help young people and tackle crime in London.
In a statement shared online, the woman argued that London needs more than a mayor to address some of the challenges facing young people in the city, saying religious and community leaders also have an important role to play.
“London doesn’t need a mayor, London needs a Pastor. Our city is bleeding. The only person that take all these young people off the streets is Pastor Tobi,” she said.
Her comments have attracted attention online, particularly because of the strong comparison she made between the role of a mayor and that of a pastor.
The woman specifically credited Adegboyega with helping young people who, in her view, could otherwise become involved in street crime. She portrayed the pastor as someone who has been actively engaging with youths and providing them with an alternative path.
Adegboyega, who is known for his work with young people and his involvement in community-focused initiatives in London, has maintained a public profile through his ministry and social activities.

However, the woman’s claim that Adegboyega is responsible for taking “all these young people off the streets” is her personal assessment and was not accompanied by independent figures establishing the extent of any reduction in crime or youth offending attributable to him.

While elected officials are responsible for governing the city, community and religious organisations often operate alongside public institutions, offering mentoring, outreach and other forms of support to young people.
